Jawai is a small village named after the Jawai river which has now become an emerging wildlife attraction for the tourists. The surrounding area is mainly known as Jawai Dam because it is located near the dam. The Jawai dam is built by Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur and covers the village are of 500 square kilometers. Jawai is nearly famous for the Leopards, birds and crocodiles. It also attracts migratory birds of over 100 species flying every year. Jawai is home for panthers, hyenas, chinkaras, nilgai, bears, wolves but in widely known for the human friendly leopards. The primary attraction of visiting Jawai is the Jeep safari. The locals are very familiar with the leopards and there hasn't been a single incident of leopard attack in the nearby villages. Tourists can avail morning safari followed by evening safari or can opt for a full day safari.
For those prefer traveling by air, there are five major airports for reaching Jawai. Jaipur (400kms), Jodhpur(170km), Udaipur (149kms), and Ahmedabad (270kms)are the airport from where you can either hire a direct cab to reach Jawai or take other modes of transport as per their convenience.
As you can see in the map, Jawai is well-connected to the major cities of Rajasthan through road. You can head towards Jawai from Udaipur (136kms) and reach Thour via Gogunda, Pindwara, and Nana. You will find the same route when heading from Mount Abu(94kms) as illustrated in the map. If you are coming to Jawai from Jaipur, then you will have to go through Kishangarh, Ajmer, Beawar, Sojat, Pali, and Sumerpu(24kms)r. From Jodhpur, it would be closer and you will have to go through Pali and Sumerpur only. From Kumbhalgarh(86kms), you pass through Jetaran, Ahmedabad(280kms), Mundara, and Lunawa.
