10 Things to do at Ranikhet

Ranikhet is a hill station in Uttarakhand State, northern India. It is known for its views of the Himalayas. Hundreds of bells adorn Jhula Devi Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga. Fruit trees grow on the terraced orchards of Chaubatia Gardens, with views of peaks including Nanda Devi. Mahatma Gandhi stayed in a hut, Gandhi Kuti, in nearby Tarikhet village during the independence struggle.

Famous for its apples, plums, peaches and apricots, the Chaubatia Orchards located in the laps of Himalayan ranges also offer panoramic views of the peaks of Nanda Devi, Nilkanth, Nandaghunti and Trishul. The Kumaon Regimental Centre is a famous museum that was built in the 1970s to showcase the rich legacy of the Kumaon Region. Established by Kumaon Regiment of Indian Army, the museum houses war artefacts of historical importance that exhibit the glory and achievements of the Garhwal and Kumaon regiments. The museum displays of photographs of wars, weapons used by the armed forces, medals and uniforms as well as flags, stone tablets and other objects of interest.

Haidakhan Babaji Temple

Dedicated to Haidakhan, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva, the Haidakhan Bababji Temple was constructed by Haidakhan himself, and is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Ranikhet. Other than the main temple, the complex also has five guest houses in all, along with an Italian temple, Sri Babaji's Kutir and the Sri Baba Research Hospital. The temple is a must visit during Navratris and in the evenings on all days.
